The Bronx Institute of Self Defense aims at providing New York City with one of the most traditional and true form of Tae Kwon Do to date- Ji Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do. Grand Master Jo Almeda, an 8th dan blackbelt, has been teaching this art for over fifty years, and has the experience and skill rarely found in most martial arts instructors today. Studying in Japan, Korea, and the United States Jo Almeda has refined the art of Karate and Tae Kwon do into a regiment that builds off the traditions and techniques of the past while being adaptable for modern day use.
Our goal sets to establish several characteristics in our students, these being mental, spiritual, and physical strength, as well as control and discipline. Tae Kwon Do should be treated as an art but handled as carefully as a bladed weapon, misused can have lethal repercussions, thus it is our goal to guide our students to used this art to create an alternative mindframe to the hussle and bussle of everyday life, building confidence and discipline. Moreover, students work to keep healthy, and enjoy themselves, while learning how to defend against any would be attackers. Moreover, we seek to instill in all our students principles that help children grow into adults, and adults into better parents, workers, friends, and family.
The Bronx Institute of Self Defense is one of the only schools in New York to offer a traditional hardwood floor, a regiment that is both strict and flexible, and an atmosphere that can only be found in our style's homeland of Korea.
